Were I only a record executive
Press Briefing -
I have a statement for those gathered here today, with regards to Sony's stance on MP3 file swapping. I, as the Vice President of Sony's music division, declare that Sony will no longer take legal action against the fans of our music. We will not support the RIAA in any suits against our customers, nor will we seek any suits against our customers. We will encourage fans of our artists to buy product that they approve of, and we will attempt to make that purchase have more content. We are producers and salesmen of product, and it is we that must try to get you to buy our product. We have no right to force you. Sony seeks to embrace DVD-A, a format that will allow cleaner, crisper, and multichannel music. The quality of music that can be had from DVD-As will be far superior to music CDs and also MP3s. Sony electronics is now making development of cheaper and lighter DVD-A players, and a Sony DVDA walkman will be available within the year. Sony seeks to create purchas incentives for both CDs and DVD-As, such as concert and merchandise raffles amongst disc owners, access to special exclusive web based content, and more. When purchasing music look for our record labels: Columbia, Epic and Legacy, and remember that we at Sony are on your side. We live in a time where more people love music, and listen to more music than ever, and we at Sony want to be a part of this appreciation of music, not standing as a barrier to it.
